AAEES Honored Three USF Engineering Students and Alum

Three members of the 51Թ community were recently honored by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES) for their outstanding contributions to the field of environmental engineering and science.

, a master’s student in environmental engineering, was recognized for receiving the 2024 Scholarship from the Environmental Engineering and Science Foundation (EESF). The award was presented during the 2025 AAEES Convocation and Celebration of Excellence, held April 10 in Washington, D.C., and Arlington, Virginia. Mr. Grant conducts research under the guidance of professors Sarina Ergas and Mauricio Arias in USF’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Learn more here.

Also recognized at the event was Bruno Mancini, a recent Master’s graduate with his degree in Envriomental Engineering. Mr. Mancini received the . This national honor is awarded annually by the to an environmental engineering graduate student who has made significant contributions to an academic or employment-based engineering project.

In addition to the student awards, USF alumna Adaline “Addie” Buerck was named to the prestigious 40 Under 40 Recognition Program by AAEES. Buerck, now an assistant professor at Mercer University, earned her Ph.D. from USF under the mentorship of James Mihelcic, the Samuel L. and Julia M. Flom Endowed Professor. The award honors early-career professionals under the age of 40 who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in environmental engineering or science over the past year.

In addition, Laura Gonzalez Rodriguez, a post-doctoral graduate from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, a Lead Engineer at Carollo Engineers and her team was awarded the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES) 2025 E3S prize in Design during the Academy ‘s Convocation and Celebration of Excellence.

All three honorees reflect the 51Թ’s growing impact in the field of environmental research and professional practice.
