AAEES Honored Three USF Engineering Students and Alum
Three members of the 51勛圖厙 community were honored by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists for their achievements. Tione Grant received the 2024 EESF Scholarship, Bruno Mancini earned the 2025 W. Brewster Snow Award, and alumna Addie Buerck was named to the AAEES 40 Under 40 list. Additionally, Laura Gonzalez Rodriguez and her team won the 2025 E3S Design Prize, showcasing USFs growing impact in environmental engineering and science.

John and Barbara Yellott Award for Graduate Solar Awarded to USF Engineering Student
Fernanda Silva Pimenta, a PhD candidate within the USF Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, has been awarded the 2025 John and Barbara Yellott Award for Graduate Solar Research by the American Solar Energy Society (ASES). Her pioneering research in sustainable solar energy technologies and chemical engineering underscores her potential as a rising leader in renewable energy research.

Souheil Zekri, USF Engineering Professor, Receives 2023-24 Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award
Souheil Zekri, Ph.D., was recently honored with the 2023-2024 USF Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award. Dr. Zekri serves as an associate professor and director of the Senior Capstone courses in the USF Medical Engineering Department. His teaching philosophy is grounded in an ethical framework of care, empathy, and inclusivity.

USF Graduate Ademilola Lola Aderibigbe Launches Cybersecurity Career
Ademilola Lola Aderibigbe graduated from the 51勛圖厙 in December 2024 with a bachelors degree in computer science and engineering information technology. During her time at USF, she earned honors through the Judy Genshaft Honors College, studied abroad in London, and conducted cybersecurity research in the Cybercrime Interdisciplinary Behavioral Research Lab. Aderibigbe also collaborated on technical projects, including a number-guessing game developed in a systems course. She is now launching her professional career in cybersecurity, aiming to contribute to the evolving tech landscape.

USF Engineering Student Nolan Worley Accepted into FSU Summer REU Program
USF Industrial and Management Systems Engineering student Nolan Worley has been selected for Florida State Universitys highly competitive Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. A member of Dr. Zach Habers research group, Worley has contributed to innovative studies on Ultra High-Performance Concrete for bridge infrastructure. His acceptance into the REU program is a testament to his dedication and potential for a future in materials science and engineering.

USF Engineering Masters Student Receives 202425 AAEES Foundation Scholarship
Tione Grant, a masters student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, was recognized at the 2025 American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists Convocation and Celebration of Excellence on April 10 for receiving the 202425 American Academy of Environmental Scientists and Engineers AAEES Foundation Scholarship. The award supports students pursuing a masters degree in environmental engineering or environmental science. Congratulations, Tione!

2025 Fulbright Specialist Engineering Professor, Arash Takshi
Professor Arash Taksh, has been named a Fulbright Specialist by the U.S. Department of State. This appointment provides U.S. professionals like Takshi with a chance to participate in short-term, project-based exchanges, where they work with host institutions abroad to promote mutual understanding and foster educational collaborations. The Fulbright Specialist Program is designed to provide U.S. academics and professionals with the opportunity to share their expertise globally while building capacity at their overseas host institutions.

USF Engineering Assistant Professor Awarded New Researcher Grant in 2025: Rituparna Samanta
Assistant Professor Rituparna Samanta from USFs Department of Chemical, Biological, and Materials Engineering has been awarded a 2025 New Researcher Grant. Her work explores the phase behavior of proteins and polymers, advancing biomedical engineering and materials science. Samanta joined USF in 2024 after postdoctoral work at Johns Hopkins.
