John and Barbara Yellott Award for Graduate Solar Awarded to USF Engineering Student

, a post-doctoral candidate in the USF Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (ChBME) has been selected as the 2025 recipient of the . The award, presented annually by the , recognizes a graduate student whose work demonstrates outstanding contributions to solar energy research.

Ms. Pimenta, advised by Professor John Kuhn from the USF Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (ChBME), is recognized for her innovative research in sustainable energy. Holding a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering, Ms. Pimenta has expertise in sustainable products and catalysis. Her research focuses on advancing solar energy technologies, and she is skilled in various lab-based characterization techniques, including FTIR, XRD, TGA, and GC-MS, as well as process design and control.

The John and Barbara Yellott Award honors graduate students concentrating on solar energy at recognized academic institutions. The award is named after John Yellott, a pioneer in solar energy research and a key figure in the development of the American Solar Energy Society during its early years. Alongside his wife Barbara, John Yellott made significant contributions to solar energy advocacy and supported students working in the field.

Ms. Pimenta’s achievement highlights her commitment to advancing solar energy technology and her potential to contribute significantly to the future of sustainable energy.
