Souheil Zekri, USF Engineering Professor, Receives 2023-24 Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award
Souheil Zekri, Ph.D., was recently honored with the 2023-2024 USF Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award. Dr. Zekri serves as an associate professor and director of the Senior Capstone courses in the USF Medical Engineering Department. 2025 Fulbright Specialist – Engineering Professor, Arash Takshi
Professor Arash Taksh, has been named a Fulbright Specialist by the U.S. Department of State. This appointment provides U.S. professionals like Takshi with a chance to participate in short-term, project-based exchanges, where they work with host institutions abroad to promote mutual understanding and foster educational collaborations. The Fulbright Specialist Program is designed to provide U.S. academics and professionals with the opportunity to share their expertise globally while building capacity at their overseas host institutions.

USF Engineering Assistant Professor Awarded New Researcher Grant in 2025: Rituparna Samanta
Assistant Professor Rituparna Samanta from USF’s Department of Chemical, Biological, and Materials Engineering has been awarded a 2025 New Researcher Grant. Her work explores the phase behavior of proteins and polymers, advancing biomedical engineering and materials science. Samanta joined USF in 2024 after postdoctoral work at Johns Hopkins.

Mantis Shrimp’s Shock-Absorbing Phononic Shields: USF Engineering Faculty’s Role in New Study
Assistant Professor Meisam Asgari, from the Department of Medical Engineering at USF, was recently recognized for his contribution to a research paper published in Science (Vol. 387, Issue 6734, pp. 659–66). The study, titled Does the Mantis Shrimp Pack a Phononic Shield? explores the impact-resistant properties of the peacock mantis shrimp’s dactyl club.
